Movable
Type is the leading full-service blogging software package. It
is extremely flexible, features a myriad of plugins, a vast user base for
support and is my top recommendation if you are serious about a professional

TypePad
is an excellent "first step" into the world of blogging. It is
a simplified version of Movable Type that is hosted by Six Apart, as opposed
to your own server. It does not have as much felxibility in terms of design
or in terms of plugins, but is a great way to get started. It is very easy
to upgrade to Movable Type at a future date. Prices start at $5 a month

LiveJournal
is a very basic weblogging platform designed for beginners and consumers
interested in scratching the surface of the blogging phenomneon. It is not
especially flexible but is a great way to "play around" before
